Year of the Dragon

Millions of people around the world will celebrate the Year of the Dragon beginning January 23, 2012. The dragon, a respected creature traditionally considered magical or divine, is the fifth of twelve animals associated with the Chinese lunar calendar. People born in the Year of the Dragon are said to be flamboyant, and powerful innovators. The Year of the Dragon ends on February 9, 2013.

Artwork

The Celebrating Lunar New Year series highlights common ways the holiday is celebrated. For the 2012 release, artist Kam Mak depicted a colorful dragon figure often manipulated by dancers welcoming the new year. The eye-popping illustration was created using oil paints on panel. The design also incorporates an intricate paper-cut dragon and the Chinese character for “Dragon.”
